Co-creating change in Colombia’s food systems

In Colombia, iCRA plays a key role in the SASi-SPi initiative, a five-year, EU-funded collaboration led by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). This ambitious initiative supports the transformation of food systems through approaches that are not only sustainable and evidence-based, but also inclusive and rooted in local realities.

Our contribution focuses on what we do best: building trust, facilitating dialogue, and creating space for meaningful partnerships. We bring together farmers, women’s groups, youth, policymakers, researchers, and civil society to ensure that the voices shaping food system transitions reflect the people who live and work within them.

Listening, learning and acting together

We facilitate participatory dialogues in four territories: Nariño Centro, Montes de María, Altiplano Cundiboyacense, and Valle del Cauca. Each region brings unique challenges, from post-conflict recovery and food insecurity to ecosystem degradation. Together with partners, we build trust, strengthen community engagement, and spark local innovation for food system resilience.

Bridging science, policy and practice

As the lead for Workstream 4, iCRA ensures that communication strategies are not just about disseminating information but about fostering meaningful engagement and co-creation. By bridging the gap between science, policy, and practice, we support Colombia’s journey toward sustainable food systems that are inclusive and responsive to the needs of all stakeholders.
